(STAMPE D).

I, SIDNEY SCHOFIELD, Master of the 3.8. "WING

SANG" make oath and say as follows:

1. On the night of the 24th July I was in command

of the S.S. "WING SANG" on passage from Shanghai

to Hong Kong.

2. I obtained a fix of the Lamock Island Lighthouse

at about 8.00 p.m.

3. From then I shaped a course designed to pass 8

miles south of Pedro Blanco Island.

4. About 5.00 A.M. on the morning of the 25th July

I passed Pedro Blanco Island but, instead of

being 8 miles to the south of it, I found myself

2 miles to the north of it.

5. The reason why I shaped a course to pass 8 miles

to the south of Pedro Blanco Island was because

on the last voyage from shanghai to Hong Kong I

had shaped the course to bring Pedro Blanco IO-

land right ahead and on reaching that Island I

found myself 6 miles to the north of it.

6. on a previous occasion I have also found myself se

inshore on passage between Hong Kong and Breaker

Point.

7. It is only within the last few months that I hav

noticed such strong and dangerous inshore sets i

this locality and in the course of 24 years' ex

perience on the China Coast I have never notior

anything similar.

ALL of which is true to the best of my kno

ledge and belief.

SWORN at the Courts of Justice,

JULY

Hong Kong, this 26th day of ↳ Sd.S.Schofield.

/1947.
